Danny Roots is a house dj, born & raised in Leeds and has been collecting and mixing music since 1996. His keen interest in music was clear to see from an early age, being drawn to the sounds his parents were listening to and getting hooked on soul from the likes of Bill Withers & Nina Simone. He bought his first 12” vinyl at the age of 10 but it wasn’t until 5 years later on his 15th birthday when he somehow managed to get through the doors at the legendary Back to Basics party at the Music Factory in Leeds that the tone to his musical journey was set. This was the moment the love and passion for house music started, a year later he literally begged and borrowed his way to the first pair of turntables and began to collect and mix vinyl.
Over the years Danny has pushed his sound home and abroad having played in Ibiza, Germany & Belgium. More recently you can catch him in various bars and clubs around Leeds as well as his show on Radio Frequency, where he brings the deeper side of house to the station ever week on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm. His sound is straight up house, taking influences from Dj’s such as Sneak, Derrick Carter & David Morales through to home-grown talent such as Ralph Lawson. Not scared to mix old with new Roots’ sound is deep to tech, soulful to acid and everything in-between…..house is house.
In the worlds of Chuck Roberts “You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew or Gentile. It don’t make a difference in our House”
One love!
