Antix & Pean

Posted by Admin On March - 7 - 2011

DJ ANTIX, a Drum n’ Bass DJ and producer from Leeds, was driven with passion for the music at around the age of 15. From this point his production (previously hip-hop) changed to Drum n’ Bass and things progressed forward from there. Landing a slot on the Norths no.1 DnB Station Radio Frequency FM, ANTIX along with his partner in crime Mc Pean, worked their way through the ranks and advanced to a prime time slot, 8-10pm saturday nights.

This opened up many doors and since has resulted in gigs at some of Leeds’ major nights including SUBDUB, Exodus, TRANSMISSION, Valve, Metropolis, and Jump… as well as hosting a weekly event at Gatecrasher and regularly playin at Sankeys in Manchester. This lead to Antix starting the idea, and getting the ball rolling, for the event FRONTLINE… which in its months of running was a massive success and again opened up many doors.

ANTIX also entered and came 2nd in ‘Drum and Bass Arena’s’ Kam Mix Challenge a few years back… a DJ Compeition with over 250 entrants. ANTIX entered his mix and was narrowed down to the final 4, who were all to travel to London (DNBA HQ) to compete on DNBA TV with DJ’s RANDALL and A SIDES judging the competition. ANTIX also came 1st place in a Metropolis DJ Competition and as a result played Front Room alongside DJ HYPE and LTJ BUKEM, and also came 2nd place in an ‘Asylum and Technique’ DJ Competition.

At present you can find DJ ANTIX spending most of his free time in the studio working on beats trying to move things forward. Loads of new stuff soon to come including Grime and Hip-hop, and the brother duo of Antix and Vecta, aka VITAL TECHNIQUES, tearing up things on the dubstep/garage/grime tip and running their label ‘Second To None Music’! Check out their soundcloud @ www.soundcloud.com/vital-techniques. And remember, check out the Frontline sessions every Saturday night 8-10pm on www.radiofrequencyfm.co.uk for a music mash-up of Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Garage and Grime, with Antix and Mc Pean!

MC Pean is rapidly becoming one of the hottest young MC’s on the circuit. Building upon his Hip-hop roots, Peanie-man’s lyrical ability has seen him soar through the ranks of the Leeds Underground and establish himself as a mainstay on the Drum and Bass circuit. It all began for MC Pean in 2003, where at the tender age of 15 he began writing Hip- Hop lyrics alongside frequency comrad Antix, a partnership that has gone from strength-to-strength over the proceeding years. Initially ‘spitting’ nursury rhymes to eachother in the back of the classroom, within 6 weeks the duo had completed enough material, and, following their debut performance at the schools ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition under the alias ‘Grafix’, the two were talent spotted and given studio time to enhance their development. However, the game changed in 2005, when the duo began attending Subdub aswell as other club-nights exposing them to the infectious and increasingly popular sound of Drum and Bass. Antix began Djing, and it was then that Pean began his solo mission as a DnB MC. Spotted at an open Mic in the Basement of Tribe Records, Subdub DnB resident DJ Steppa saw great potential in the pair and invited them to join the ranks of the then fledgeling Radio Frequency in the Spring of 2006 and, with Antix taking his place behind the decks, MC Pean was left to front early radio shows on his own providing a real ‘baptism of Fire’ into the MC game. This undoubtedly strengthened his resolve as before long Antix & MC Pean had one of the most popular shows on the station and had started becoming regulars on the Drum and Bass circuit with MC Pean fronting raves alongside some of the biggest names in Drum and Bass. Steppa and Subdub head honcho Simon Scott kept the faith in MC Pean, and after impressing, he was handed his Subdub debut in (insert date here). This represented a major achievement for Pean as he was now performing at the night that had instigated his passion for the music he loved. Things continued to progress as Peanie-man took to the road, hosting nights up and down the country alongside Frequency DJ’s Antix, Kid Dyson and Vecta including memorable raves in Liverpool, Manchester, York, Blackpool and a headliner slot at Cambridge University’s Winter Ball in 2009.

Recently, MC Pean has returned to his roots somewhat, with a collaborating album alongside Antix entitled ‘The Yorkshire Samurai Mixtape’. The album has seen Pean’s lyrical skill reach new heights and emphasizes his versatility across many Urban Music genres. Pean went on to win MC Skibadee’s MC competition at Innovation in the Sun 2010 after also finishing runner-up in the Festival’s main competition. Recently, Pean has seen new bookings fronting Antix and Vecta’s dubstep alias Vital Techniques, and has just dropped a fresh new grime track, ‘Going On Road’ alongside Antix and breakthrough vocalist Parly B. The future for this Leeds-born MC looks extremely bright, with an unrelenting enthusiam MC Pean is a born entertainer and energetic front-man. Remember to catch MC Pean alongside DJ Antix for the Frontline Sessions, each and every Saturday 8-10pm on www.radiofrequencyfm.co.uk. There is undoubtedly much more to come from Leeds’ number 1 MC so watch this space…Okay!!!
